A collision involving two school buses in eastern Idaho has left several children injured, with one requiring urgent air transport to a hospital in another state. The incident occurred during the morning pick-up run on Monday, 15 December 2025.
Details of the Morning Collision
According to the Idaho State Police, the crash happened at approximately 7:15 a.m. on State Highway 25 near the small farming community of Paul. Sergeant Benjamin Foster stated that one bus, which was in the process of collecting children, was struck from behind by a second bus travelling "at a considerable amount of speed." The early morning light at the time was described as a "twilight-dawn period," with the sun not yet fully risen.
Seventeen students were aboard the two vehicles at the moment of impact. Authorities confirmed that a small number of pupils waiting by the roadside to board were unharmed.
Injuries and Emergency Response
The crash resulted in six people being taken to hospital: four students and both drivers. The most seriously injured child was flown by air ambulance to a medical facility in Utah for advanced care. The Idaho State Police have said they will not be providing ongoing updates on the juvenile patients' conditions.
Sergeant Foster indicated that the three other students treated at a local hospital appeared to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries, such as broken noses. The conditions of the bus drivers were not specified in the initial report.
Ongoing Investigation and Community Reaction
An official photograph released by state police showed significant damage to the front of one bus, with its engine compartment exposed and warning lights still active. The crash site is roughly 155 miles southeast of Boise and a similar distance northwest of Salt Lake City, Utah.
The Minidoka County School District swiftly addressed the incident on social media, affirming its full cooperation with the investigating authorities. In a Facebook post, the district emphasised that "student safety is always our top priority." The investigation into the precise cause of the collision remains active.
