Channel 4's beloved documentary series Educating Yorkshire is returning to screens after 12 years, with a premiere date set for Sunday 31st August at 8pm. The new season will revisit Thornhill Community Academy in Dewsbury, capturing how the school has evolved since the original series aired in 2014.
In the upcoming episodes, former teacher Mr Burton has taken over as headteacher from Mr Mitchell, leading a new team of staff. The series will follow students navigating modern challenges such as teenage anxiety, exam pressure, friendship struggles, and the impact of mobile phones and social media.
The original Educating Yorkshire was a ratings hit, watched by millions, and famously featured Mr Burton helping student Musharaf overcome his stammer. The new run was announced in July 2024, with Channel 4 commissioner Rita Daniels stating: 'Telling the complex story of young people in Britain in 2025 is crucial for Channel 4.'
Daniels added: 'Much has changed for British teenagers since we were last at Thornhill Academy... it will be fascinating to see how practices have developed since the burgeoning impact of social media, the COVID epidemic, and the intense pressure to deliver good results.'
The Educating series began with Educating Essex in 2011 and most recently featured Educating Greater Manchester in 2020. The new season of Educating Yorkshire promises to offer a heartfelt look at contemporary school life.
