Two children have been hospitalised after being hit by a car outside Burnwood Primary Academy in Chell Heath, Stoke-on-Trent, on the morning of June 24. The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 AM on Chell Heath Road, prompting a major emergency response including police, three ambulances, and an air ambulance.
Injuries and Emergency Response
According to West Midlands Ambulance Service, a girl sustained serious injuries and received trauma care at the scene before being stabilised and transported by land ambulance on blue lights and sirens to Royal Stoke University Hospital. A boy suffered potentially serious injuries and was also treated at the scene before being taken to the same hospital for further checks. A spokesperson for the ambulance service stated: 'Crews arrived to find a girl and a boy who had been injured in a collision with a car. The girl sustained serious injuries and received trauma care from the team of ambulance staff. Once stabilised, the girl was conveyed by land ambulance on blue lights and sirens to Royal Stoke University Hospital. The boy sustained potentially serious injuries and was treated on scene before being taken to the same hospital for further checks.' The driver of the car, a woman, was assessed but declined hospital treatment.
Police Investigation and Witness Appeal
Staffordshire Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses. The driver of the white Toyota involved remained at the scene and is assisting with enquiries. A police spokesperson said: 'We are appealing for information following a collision involving a car and two pedestrians in Stoke-on-Trent. We were called to Chell Heath Road following reports of a collision involving a white Toyota and two children who were on foot. Officers attended the scene alongside colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service. Both children received medical treatment at the scene before being taken to hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening at this time.' The road outside the school was cordoned off with police tape around the pedestrian crossing, and the air ambulance landed on fields between the school and Canterbury Drive.
