Body of Girl, 9, Found in River Thames Near Gravesend

Kent Police have confirmed that a body recovered from the River Thames near Gravesend on Saturday morning is that of a nine-year-old girl who went missing after entering the water the previous day. The body was found at approximately 11:40am with assistance from the RNLI.

Formal identification has been carried out by the girl's next of kin, and police have stated that the death is not being treated as suspicious. The incident began on Friday afternoon when two children got into difficulty in the water near Royal Terrace Pier.

Police were alerted by the Port of London Authority at 1:46pm on Friday to concerns for the welfare of the children. A search operation was launched, during which a boy was rescued from the river and taken to a local hospital. His condition has been described as not life-threatening.
