Two teenagers have been questioned after a boy was allegedly attacked as he left a Tyneside high school. The 14-year-old victim suffered serious injuries in the incident, which happened as he was being collected from Wallsend's Churchill Academy last Monday afternoon.
Arrests and Bail
Police and paramedics were called to Churchill Street after the incident was reported. Officers said the victim suffered injuries to his head and neck and was taken to hospital.
Now two boys, aged 14 and 15, have been arrested. Both were questioned on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent before being released on bail.
School and Police Responses
A spokeswoman for Churchill Academy said last week: "Staff members who witnessed the incident acted quickly to provide support and engage emergency services. Police attended the scene quickly, and we are supporting them with their enquiries."
She added: "We would like to confirm that this was an isolated incident and there is no risk to the wider school community. We understand that this incident may cause concern, and we want to reassure students, parents and carers, that the safety, wellbeing and welfare of our pupils and staff remain our highest priority."
A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said after the incident: "At 2.50pm we received a report of a disturbance on Churchill Street in Wallsend. Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to hospital for treatment of head and neck injuries not believed to be life-threatening."
