A second teenager has died following a house fire in Blackpool, with his family revealing his final act of heroism through organ donation. Joey Gregory, 19, succumbed to catastrophic brain injuries on July 9, five days after the blaze on Redcar Road. Emergency services were called at 9:37 am on June 30. Joey was taken to hospital but never recovered.
Family Tribute and Organ Donation
Joey's parents shared the devastating news on Facebook. His mother, Sally, revealed that Joey had opted into organ donation at age 17 and his kidneys, liver, pancreas, and heart were donated to four recipients. She wrote: "Later today we are going to say our final goodbyes to our wonderful son Joey Gregory. His brain injuries are too catastrophic for him to survive... They have found four recipients to receive Joey's kidneys, liver, pancreas and his big beautiful heart." Sally described him as a hero and asked for prayers for the success of the transplants.
Joey's father, Harry, paid tribute: "Rest in peace my little blue eyed boy... I'll love and miss you forever.. Now it's time to do God's work."
Second Victim and Investigation
The fire also claimed the life of 13-year-old Coby Keogh, who died on June 30. Three other people suffered minor injuries. Lancashire Police and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service are investigating. Officers stated there is no evidence of third-party involvement and believe the blaze was started by an e-bike.
Community Support
A GoFundMe page raised over £11,600 for Joey's family. Sally had earlier updated on Joey's fight: "We were told on Tuesday that the first 24-48 hours were critical. Then they said 72..... We are on day five and my boy is still here." She expressed gratitude for support from family and friends.
