A 17-year-old boy was left with a broken eye socket, fractured cheekbone, and nose after being attacked by a mob of around 20 youths at the TRNSMT music festival in Glasgow on Friday evening. The teen, who had purchased a three-day ticket, was set upon shortly after arriving at Glasgow Green with a friend. The gang surrounded the pair near the main stage, punching and kicking them to the ground, and repeatedly stamping on the teen's head.
Mother's Horror and Hospital Visit
Speaking to the Record, the teen's mother described her horror upon seeing her son after receiving a call from the on-site medic tent. 'I was horrified when I saw the state of his face. He was bloodied and had two black eyes,' she said. 'The back of his head was like a golf ball. I took him straight to A&E at the Queen Elizabeth in Glasgow. He collapsed when we arrived and two paramedics had to take him into hospital.'
Doctors reportedly said the teen should have been brought in by ambulance with blue lights, and that one more blow to his head could have been fatal. The injuries include two black eyes, a broken eye socket, and suspected fractures to the cheekbone and nose. Doctors anticipate surgery in the coming days, but facial swelling is delaying treatment. The friend also suffered a broken nose and cheekbone.
Social Media Footage and Bystanders
Dozens of videos of the attack were shared on social media platforms, showing the teenager being dragged to the ground and assaulted while numerous spectators watched. The mother expressed disgust at the bystanders: 'It's also appalling that people not only stood there looking on but also filmed it.' She added, 'My son said he didn't want a fight and walked away, but these boys were just intent on causing harm. They don't seem to understand they could kill someone.'
Security Response and Police Investigation
The mother has filed a formal complaint against TRNSMT, criticizing security staff for failing to intervene. She stated the attack only stopped when a woman threw herself over the teen to shield him. 'Not one member of staff stepped in to break up the attack and a woman had to put herself in danger to save my son,' she said. Medical staff attended but did not call an ambulance because he was conscious, and he was left to walk alone to meet her at the festival entrance. A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed: 'On the evening of Friday, 19 June, 2026, officers received a report of two male youths assaulted in the Glasgow Green area. Enquiries are ongoing.' DF Concerts, the festival organizer, said: 'We are aware of an incident that took place on Friday 19th June and are supporting Police Scotland with their investigation.'
