Richard Tice Weeps for 'Absolute Colossus' Ann Widdecombe

Emotional Tributes at the Scene

Richard Tice broke down in tears as he paid tribute to Ann Widdecombe, describing her as an 'absolute colossus' and a 'legend in all our lifetime.' Speaking to Reform UK members at the Moorland Hotel, Tice said: 'We have lost an absolute colossus; a legend in all our lifetime. Ann Widdecombe was unique. She was adored by millions. She was treasured by millions, including my late mum.' He added: 'We've lost something extraordinary. The Scottish whiskey industry has also lost a friend.' Tice proposed creating a limited edition whiskey called 'Widders Whiskey' with tasting notes describing 'unique, unforgettable flavours - a special, very special, series of fiery, spicy, but reliable tones. A treasured blend to be enjoyed to eternity.'

Lee Anderson's Tribute

Lee Anderson, the Ashfield MP, also paid a moving tribute after laying flowers at Widdecombe's home in Haytor Vale, Devon. He compared her to a 'headteacher,' saying: 'She came across as strict but caring and didn't suffer fools gladly, would call a spade a spade, and you knew exactly where you stood with her. And I would say she was a political warrior; she was fearsome, a great lady, a kind lady and... when you were in her presence, you stood up, put your shoulders back and watched your lip.' Anderson added: 'Of course we want justice.'

Police Investigation and Arrest

Police investigating the murder have arrested a 28-year-old white British man on suspicion of murder. The arrest took place in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, at 9pm on Saturday with support from Counter Terrorism Police. Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman of Devon and Cornwall Police stated: 'At this point, there is still no information to suggest that this is a terrorism-related incident and at this point we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this murder. At this stage, there is nothing to suggest that it was politically motivated.' He confirmed detectives remain open-minded about the potential motive and stressed there is no threat to the wider public. Longman also urged the public not to engage with online speculation, calling it 'unhelpful' and 'distressing to the family and friends of Miss Widdecombe.'
