Van Gogh Show Opens Early at Newcastle Arena

The Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience opened a day early at Newcastle's Utilita Arena on Saturday, July 11, 2026, after overwhelming ticket demand prompted organizers to move the original Sunday opening forward. The touring exhibition, which has captivated over seven million people worldwide, will run through August 9.

Immersive Art Experience Features Over 300 Works

The walk-through display projects more than 300 of Vincent Van Gogh's celebrated works onto the floor and walls of a 10,000-square-foot gallery space inside the arena. Iconic paintings such as The Starry Night, Sunflowers, and Café Terrace at Night appear in dynamic, scrolling images that shift and move, freed from their frames. Visitors can also explore Sunflower Alley, a dedicated walkway celebrating one of the artist's most famous subjects.

The post-impressionist painter, who died in 1890, created approximately 860 oil paintings in the last two years of his life alone. The exhibition coincides with the 136th anniversary of his death on July 29.

Special Sessions and High Capacity

Beyond Van Gogh offers immersive yoga sessions in the digital gallery space, providing gentle morning exercise against the vibrant art backdrop. SEND-friendly sessions and adult-only evening viewings are also available. The arena can accommodate up to 2,700 visitors per day, with each walk-through visit lasting approximately one hour.

Anna Parry, from show producer Annerin Productions, said: "The combination of art, technology and storytelling has captivated millions of people around the world and we're proud to be hosting it in Newcastle this summer." She added: "The response from people across the North East has been incredible. Demand has been so strong that we've added an extra Saturday opening date, giving even more visitors the chance to experience Beyond Van Gogh during its opening weekend."

Global Phenomenon Arrives in Newcastle

The exhibition has earned top reviews globally, described as "a breathtaking world of colour, light and sound." High-tech projection equipment and sound systems create an enveloping environment where masterpieces come alive, surrounding visitors in a dynamic display. The show aims to offer both a treat for Van Gogh fans and an educational opportunity for young people to learn about the artist's life and work.

Tickets are available for the run, which continues until August 9 at the Utilita Arena.
