A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an incident in which a three-year-old boy ended up inside a crocodile enclosure at a zoo in Cambridgeshire.
Incident at Johnson's of Old Hurst
Emergency services were called to Johnson's of Old Hurst in Huntingdonshire at 1:24 PM on Thursday after reports that a toddler had entered the crocodile enclosure. The boy was rescued and taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.
Police have confirmed that the child sustained serious injuries and remains in a critical but stable condition. Specially trained officers are supporting the family at the hospital.
Arrest and Investigation
Cambridgeshire Police launched an immediate investigation, leading to the arrest of a man from Norfolk. Detectives have stated that the suspect and the victim are not believed to be known to each other.
Detective Inspector Verity McCann described the incident as "distressing" and appealed for witnesses. "At this stage we are speaking to people who were at the zoo at the time of this distressing incident to understand more about the circumstances," she said. "Officers are supporting the boy's family at hospital and our thoughts remain with them."
