Thief stole £350 of Next goods in Metrocentre

A woman has admitted stealing more than £350 worth of goods from Next in the Metrocentre. Kiera Johnson, 31, of West Vallum, Denton Burn, appeared at Newcastle Magistrates' Court on Wednesday charged with theft from a shop.

Theft from store entrance

The court heard the goods, stolen from near the entrance of the Next store, were worth £353.50. Chike Anieto, prosecuting, said the items were taken from a stand and included nine body sprays and body lotion.

“The items were not recovered,” he told the court. Johnson and another woman stole body spray, body lotion and a candle from the store on February 22.

Mitigation and sentence

Johnson had three previous convictions for four offences. Alanna Wesencraft, defending, asked for credit for her early guilty plea.

She told the court: “The items were right near the exit of the store. She is lightly convicted and at the time was in the process of being evicted from the family home and panic was setting in.”

Magistrates fined Johnson £100 and ordered her to pay £150 compensation.
