Radley to close all stores by September in high street blow

Radley will close its high street stores within nine days and shut its concessions by the end of September. The accessories retailer has already ceased online trading this week after offering discounts of up to 70% across its range of leather bags and accessories.

Its remaining stores in Covent Garden, London, and Glasgow are expected to shut by the end of August, according to reports, while its 19 concessions are understood to continue trading into September before closing.

Stores close soon

“Hurry to your nearest store,” a statement on the homepage of Radley’s UK website reads. “Find your nearest store here, stores close soon.”

The news comes three months after the retailer collapsed into administration. Its brand and intellectual property were purchased by Poundland owner Gordon Brothers in a pre-pack deal, but it has different plans for the retailer.

Job losses and financial struggles

The acquisition did not include Radley’s UK retail operations, which resulted in 42 immediate job losses. Gordon Brothers reportedly plans to move Radley towards a model focused on wholesale, licensing and international expansion.

At the time of administration, FTI Consulting said the collapse followed a “sustained period of challenging economic conditions” in retail, including weaker customer demand and rising operational costs.

The retailer’s financial situation worsened last year. Its pre-tax losses grew to £5.5million for the year to April 26, 2025, up from £1.7million the year before. Its turnover dropped from £72million to £65.8million.

Former owner Freshstream, which acquired Radley in 2016, had put the business up for sale. Next was named among retailers eyeing up a deal before Gordon Brothers snapped up the retailer.

Radley’s doomed concession locations include two locations in Scotland, one each in Wales and Northern Ireland, with the remainder in England.
