A 47-year-old British man broke down in tears at Northampton Crown Court as he admitted to a series of depraved sexual assaults against his partner, including drugging her and facilitating her rape by unknown men over an 11-year period. The case has drawn comparisons to the notorious French case of Gisèle Pelicot, who was systematically drugged and raped by her husband, Dominique Pelicot.
Guilty Plea to 32 Charges
The man pleaded guilty to 32 charges, including eight counts of rape, 10 counts of assault by penetration, and four counts of sexual assault. Some counts related to multiple incidents. He also admitted four counts of rape, four counts of assault by penetration, and two counts of sexual assault committed together with a person unknown. The offences occurred between 2014 and 2025, ending with his arrest.
Prosecutor Alexandra Felix KC told the court: “All of these offences were committed while the victim had been drugged and stupefied.” However, the defence disputed this, suggesting the victim may have been asleep during some attacks. Defence lawyer Nathalie Carter said her client “has made it clear from the very beginning he did not want to contest any matters” because he “does not want the complainant spoken to again.”
Filmed Attacks on Drugged Victim
The man used his mobile phone to record the attacks, which showed the victim tied up by her arms and legs on a bed. In one video, she was heard snoring. He used various objects in the assaults and even wrote on her body. The victim cannot be named to protect her identity.
Judge David Herbert KC warned the defendant he faced a substantial prison sentence, including a life term, when he is sentenced in September. He said: “Be under no illusions as to the length of sentence in this case.”
Wider Network of Abuse
The case is part of a broader pattern of drug-facilitated sexual abuse in the UK. Earlier this month, the National Crime Agency (NCA) revealed it had identified eight cases in the UK as part of investigations into 270 individuals worldwide linked to a major online abuse forum. Eight suspects have been arrested, and steps have been taken to protect eight victims. Nigel Leary, deputy director of the NCA, said: “The scale of what we have seen so far has left us deeply concerned.”
Separately, 13 men are facing trial in Greater Manchester following a police investigation into the drug-facilitated sexual abuse of a woman led by her husband. The NCA believes there are many more undiscovered forums where men coordinate such crimes.
Sentencing Adjourned
The hearing at Northampton Crown Court was adjourned until September 18, when the defendant will be sentenced. Prosecutors did not open the facts of the case during the brief hearing.
