Unprovoked Attack Leaves Family Devastated

A beloved family dog was killed and her owner left with a broken hand after a horrific, unprovoked attack by a Bullmastiff in Glasgow's Robroyston area on Saturday, June 20. Beagle cross Treacle was out walking with owner Andrew Little, 39, when the large dog, off its lead, charged at them and mauled her to death.

Andrew, who had moved with his wife Kate, 33, and their two-year-old daughter to their new home in Robroyston just three weeks prior, described the attack as terrifying. He broke a bone in his hand while trying to save Treacle. The couple now fear for their safety and that of their child, worried the aggressive dog remains in the neighbourhood without restrictions.

Details of the Attack

Andrew had taken Treacle and their other dog, Bonnie, for a walk along Daffodil Drive around 8pm. He spotted a large dog across the road and crossed to avoid it, but the Bullmastiff, off its lead, ran towards them within seconds. Andrew shouted to the owner, but the dog grabbed Treacle and ripped her undercarriage, exposing her intestines and organs. The Bullmastiff's owner eventually intervened, putting the dog in a chokehold to release Treacle.

Andrew called Kate, then used a towel to hold Treacle's wound as they rushed her to the vet. Despite efforts, vets said around half of Treacle's organs had been exposed too long, and she was put down. Andrew was treated at hospital for a broken left hand and given a tetanus shot due to potential bites or scratches from the Bullmastiff.

Family's Fear and Call for Action

Andrew said: "No words can amount to how much Treacle was loved and the immeasurable impact she had on our lives. There is absolutely no excuse or reason that Treacle’s life should have ended in such a horrifically violent way." He added: "That could have been my daughter, not just my dog, which I'm really scared about. It's a Bullmastiff. It's not like it's a small dog." Kate said: "We feel so unsafe. We've literally just moved into that house three weeks ago, and we're scared to leave our house with our two-year-old with this dog still roaming free and nothing has been put in place for it." The couple hope action will be taken to prevent further attacks.

Police Investigation Ongoing

Police Scotland confirmed they received a report of a dog-on-dog attack on Daffodil Drive around 10:10pm on June 20. A spokesperson said: "One dog was taken to the vets for treatment but later died. Enquiries are ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3770 of June 20."
