A 20-year-old British man is fighting for his life in a coma after a horror quad bike crash during a lads' holiday in Greece. Bradley Belhomme, from Salford, suffered catastrophic head injuries following a collision with a coach in Zante last Friday, having flown out with a group of friends the day before.
Bradley was riding a rented quad bike with another friend, who was also hospitalised. He is now in intensive care at a hospital in Attica, Athens, after being transferred from Zante. His family say he remains in a coma and is not responding to attempts to wake him.
Family's Ordeal and Medical Updates
Bradley's mother, Leanne Rabbetts, told the Manchester Evening News: 'He went on the holiday on Thursday and everything was fine. I spoke to him when he arrived, but then on the Friday afternoon I got the call saying there had been a crash.' She added that doctors tried to bring him out of a coma but he did not respond, and later had two fits. An MRI scan is needed to assess brain damage.
Leanne flew out to Greece on Sunday and has been at his bedside. 'We can only spend half an hour with him,' she said. 'The doctors tried to bring him out of a coma yesterday but he wasn't responding. Then they tried again today and he had two fits. They don't know if it's a bleed on the brain.'
Concerns Over Insurance and Support
The family believes Bradley had travel insurance but cannot confirm it as they lack access to his phone. They have contacted the British Embassy for support. Bradley's uncle, Adam, said: 'Because of the head trauma, we don't even know when he will be able to come home. If the insurance is invalid it's a big bill.'
A GoFundMe page has been set up, and fundraising events are being organised by the local community. 'The local community and friends have all donated and have been brilliant,' Adam added. 'Bradley is a loveable lad who has gone away to have a lads' holiday. It's all questions and no answers at the moment.'
Circumstances of the Crash
According to Leanne, Bradley and his friends had rented quad bikes. 'As he's turned around a corner, I've been told there's been a crash with a coach,' she said. 'We didn't know how serious it was until we got here.' The friend he was sharing a room with stayed with him in Zante and accompanied him to Athens.
Appeals have been shared on social media, with friends organising walks and events to help cover hospital costs. The family remains in limbo, waiting for scan results and hoping for Bradley's recovery.
