A 32-year-old man who died at the Burning Man festival in Nevada has been identified as Leon Reece. The Pershing County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Reece was found unresponsive at the festival site in the Black Rock Desert on September 1.
Emergency services were called at 6:24 pm local time after on-site medical personnel began administering CPR. Due to heavy rain and muddy conditions, deputies faced delays reaching the scene. By the time they arrived, a festival doctor had pronounced Reece dead.
Authorities have not disclosed Reece's hometown but stated that his family has been notified. The cause of death is pending an autopsy by the Washoe County Medical Examiner, though Sergeant Nathan Carmichael indicated the death does not appear to be weather-related.
The incident occurred as the festival faced unprecedented rainfall, turning the desert playa into thick mud and stranding approximately 72,000 attendees. The mass exodus began on Monday afternoon as conditions improved, with organisers estimating a five-hour wait for vehicles leaving the site.
Burning Man organisers urged attendees to remain patient and avoid walking out, as some had done over the weekend. Despite the challenges, officials reported that morale remained high, with music and community activities continuing.
