Three teenagers have been found guilty of killing an Uber Eats delivery driver who was beaten to death while trying to stop his scooter from being stolen. The incident occurred in Battersea, west London, on 25 May 2019.
Iderval Da Silva, 46, a Brazilian national, had parked his scooter outside a cafe when a group of young men attempted to steal it. When Mr Da Silva intervened, he was attacked in what prosecutors described as a 'momentary explosion of short-lived violence'. He was left unconscious and died three days later from a bleed on the brain.
Jadan Richards, 19, and a 16-year-old boy, both from Wandsworth, were found guilty of murder at the Old Bailey on Thursday. A 17-year-old male was convicted of manslaughter but acquitted of murder. Two other teenagers, Jasire Frazer, 18, and another 17-year-old, were cleared of all charges.
Detective Inspector Tariq Farooqi of the Metropolitan Police condemned the attackers as 'ferocious and heartless'. He added: 'The attackers, who are all known to each other, clearly set out that day to commit crime. Because of this, a family have lost a truly loved individual who was trying to provide for his son and extended family members.'
