A motorcyclist charged with causing the death of Ed Sheeran's BRIT Awards dancer Lousha Liddell has appeared in court for the first time. Jordan Spartan, 43, of Sheen Park, Richmond-upon-Thames, faced Wimbledon Magistrates' Court charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
The 25-year-old dancer, choreographer and model was a pillion passenger when she suffered fatal injuries in a collision with a vehicle in Garratt Lane, Tooting, London on January 3, 2024. She was taken to St George's Hospital in south-west London, where she died the following day.
The court heard that Spartan was driving a silver 998cc Yamaha dangerously at the time of the crash. Wearing black jeans and a black jumper, he spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address, and did not enter a plea. Magistrates bailed him to appear at Kingston-upon-Thames Crown Court for a plea and case management hearing on October 6.
Another motorist, Ahsan Zafar, 24, of Spencer Park, Wandsworth, has been charged with driving a silver Honda Civic while under the influence of cannabis, with a blood reading of five micrograms against the legal limit of two. He also faces a charge of driving without insurance. Zafar appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on September 1 and will next appear at Kingston-upon-Thames Crown Court on September 26.
Tributes poured in for Lousha, originally from Cardiff, who was described as a 'hip hop luminary' and 'beacon of inspiration'. A GoFundMe page raised over £12,000 to fund a celebration of her life.
