Police have arrested a 15-year-old after a shooting at a festival near Seattle's Space Needle left three dead and at least four injured.
The gunfire erupted at a crowded food festival over the weekend. Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson confirmed the details on Monday.
Two people exchanged gunfire
"Shortly after 6pm last night, officers responded to the sound of gunfire," Wilson said. "They... were on scene within seconds and took one suspect into custody."
Wilson stated that it is believed two people exchanged gunfire outside the Seattle Center Armory. A 19-year-old man, a 44-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman died in the incident.
"We believe this teenager opened fire in the crowd but details are still under investigation," Wilson said of the 15-year-old suspect.
Search for second suspect
The search for a possible second suspect is ongoing. Witness Faith Adia Hunter said she and her friends had just got food from a crepe vendor when the shooting began. She realized a gunman was near them and they sought shelter in the Seattle Children's Museum.
"We were right next to him when it started so we took off running," Hunter said. "So we took off running too into the building with the crowd."
Many vendors fled toward exits, abandoning their food stands. Hours later, some waited outside police tape, hoping to retrieve their tents, food and cooking gear.
Vendor Roberto Ramirez said he heard what sounded like firecrackers before people began yelling "shooter" and running frantically. "Suddenly everything was empty," he said. "People were freaked out."
