The victim, identified as Alejandro Vega, was ambushed by two assailants riding a moped on Tuesday afternoon. The attack unfolded in the Morris Heights neighbourhood, a stark reminder of the violent crime that can strike in broad daylight.
A Community in Mourning
Emergency services rushed to the scene on University Avenue near West 179th Street after receiving multiple distress calls. Despite their efforts, Mr. Vega was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple stab wounds to his torso.
Witnesses described a chaotic and terrifying scene. "They came out of nowhere on that bike," one local shopkeeper recounted. "It was so fast. One jumped off, there was a struggle, and then they sped off. He was just left there on the pavement."
