Police Cordon After Teen Raped Near Rochdale Road

Police have cordoned off a large area near Rochdale Road in Harpurhey, Greater Manchester, after a 16-year-old girl reported being raped on Sunday afternoon (June 21). Tactical Aid officers have been conducting fingertip searches of the ground beside the busy road, close to a shopping centre and the former Bernard Manning's Embassy Club.

Ongoing Investigation

The attack is said to have occurred on Sunday afternoon, and the girl is currently being supported by specialist officers. A police cordon was erected around 11am on Tuesday (June 23), with pathways closed off and multiple police vehicles at the scene throughout the day.

One local man told the Manchester Evening News: "The tape got put up about 11am I’ve been up since 8 and I’ve not seen anything happen on the fields." Another nearby resident added: "It couldn’t have happened this morning, I went to the shops, came back and they were putting the tape up. All anyone knows is it was an incident."

Police Appeal for Information

Greater Manchester Police confirmed the rape investigation in a statement. A force spokesperson said: "Officers investigating reports of a rape in Harpurhey have been undertaking enquiries in the area as they continue their investigation. Shortly after 8pm last night (22 June), a 16-year-old girl disclosed a report of a rape on Sunday afternoon close to the Rochdale Road area of Harpurhey. Enquiries are currently ongoing and specialist officers are continuing to support the girl as we work to establish the full circumstances."
