A man from Norfolk has been sentenced to serve at least 16 years behind bars for a horrific campaign of coercion that lasted three decades.
Three Decades of Abuse and Coercion
Rodney Johnston systematically forced a woman into having sex with what prosecutors described as 'hundreds of men'. The abuse, which began decades ago, only ended with his arrest and subsequent trial.
The court heard harrowing details of how Johnston used threats to control his victim. He compelled her to perform a range of sexual acts with numerous strangers. These encounters were orchestrated at various locations, including isolated spots in the countryside, hotel rooms, and inside vehicles.
Adding to the degradation, Johnston frequently filmed and photographed the abuse. This evidence was later used by Norfolk Police to build a compelling case against him.
A Lengthy Jail Term for Prolonged Crimes
At a sentencing hearing on 9 January 2026, the judge imposed a significant prison term. Johnston was handed a life sentence with a minimum tariff of 16 years. This means he will not be eligible for parole before serving that entire period.
The sentence reflects the severity, prolonged nature, and profound psychological impact of his crimes. The court recognised the devastating effect such sustained coercion and exploitation has on a victim's life.
Justice Served After Years of Suffering
The conclusion of this case brings a measure of justice after thirty years of manipulation and abuse. The police investigation, which pieced together a pattern of behaviour spanning generations, was crucial in securing the conviction.
This case highlights the serious legal consequences for those who exploit and coerce others into sexual activity. The substantial jail term sends a clear message about the severity with which the UK justice system treats such prolonged and predatory offences.
