Victim Identified as Laura Ann Aime
Laura Ann Aime, a 17-year-old girl, vanished on Halloween night 51 years ago after leaving a party alone to go to a convenience store. About a month later, her naked body was found on the side of a highway, bound and beaten, sparking a prolonged investigation that has now reached a conclusive breakthrough.
Investigators' Longstanding Suspicions
Investigators had long suspected that Bundy was responsible for Aime's murder. Police noted that he verbally acknowledged his culpability leading up to his execution, but the case remained officially open until definitive evidence could be secured through modern forensic techniques.
Utah County sheriff's Sgt. Mike Reynolds expressed the emotional weight of the case during a news conference, stating, "Laura Aime is the quintessential daughter of Utah County. We felt the pain the family feels when she was taken. We felt the pain that you felt this whole entire time, and we've had the desire to deliver to you some type of healing, we can't really say closure."
