A woman has been taken into police custody following an alleged stabbing incident at a major army base in Queensland. Emergency services were called to Enoggera Barracks, also known as Gallipoli Barracks, in north-west Brisbane at approximately 12.20pm on Friday after reports of an altercation.
Details of the Alleged Attack
A Queensland Police spokesperson confirmed that a man sustained a non-life-threatening puncture wound during the alleged altercation. The 48-year-old male soldier was transported to the Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital in a stable condition for medical treatment.
The 31-year-old woman was taken into custody within nine minutes of the incident, with officers also seizing a weapon from the scene. According to reports from 9News, the woman allegedly stabbed the soldier following an altercation.
Police Investigation Underway
A crime scene has been declared at the barracks as investigations continue. No charges have been laid at this stage, with police inquiries ongoing. The barracks, which form part of one of Australia's largest military bases, saw significant police activity with multiple vehicles arriving at the scene on Friday.
Recent Security Concerns at Military Bases
This incident comes just two days after another Australian Defence Force base was plunged into lockdown following a security breach. Military police continued to patrol Lavarack Barracks in Townsville, North Queensland on Wednesday after an intruder gained access to the site.
The gates to Lavarack Barracks have been locked, and visitors now require permission before entering the premises. It remains an offence to enter a military base without proper authorization, highlighting ongoing security concerns at defence facilities across Queensland.
The proximity of these two incidents - occurring within days of each other at separate military installations - has raised questions about base security protocols and access control measures at Australian Defence Force facilities.
