Welsh Festival Cancelled After Teen Dies

North Wales Police have confirmed that an 18-year-old woman died after a medical emergency at the Tonnau Festival on the Carreglwyd Estate in Anglesey. Officers were called at approximately 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, following reports of an attendee requiring urgent medical attention. The woman was treated at the scene and later transported to hospital, where she died. Her death is being treated as unexpected, and the coroner has been informed.

Investigation Underway

Detective Inspector Iolo Edwards said: “Our thoughts remain with the woman’s family and loved ones at this difficult time. We urge members of the public not to speculate on the circumstances of the death, and anybody with information that could assist our enquiries should contact us via our website or by calling 101, quoting reference O110259.” Police are conducting an investigation into the incident, and no further details have been released.

Festival Cancelled

Organisers of the Tonnau Festival, which was scheduled to run from Friday, July 10 to Sunday, July 12, announced the cancellation early Saturday morning. The festival, known for its international music lineup including Jamz Supernova, Mr Scruff, and Pat Kalla & Le Super La Perla, had an attendance of 2,000 people. In an email to ticket holders, organisers stated: “There was a medical incident last night (Friday) where an attendee was treated by the team onsite and transferred to hospital. While the exact details remain unclear, in order to protect your safety, we have had to take the very difficult decision to close the event.”

Attendees were asked to leave the site by midday on Sunday, with no further admittance permitted. A limited food court remained open, but no bars were operational, and alcohol consumption was prohibited. Organisers urged attendees to “look after each other” and contact security or festival staff with any concerns.

Community Response

The festival, described online as a “unique and family-friendly event set in an area of outstanding natural beauty,” has gained a reputation as one of the UK’s best small independent festivals. The sudden cancellation has left many attendees and performers disappointed, but organisers emphasised safety as the priority. Police have asked the public not to speculate and to report any information to the investigation.
