UK Police Forces Coordinate Investigation into Epstein Document Allegations
British police forces are now working in unison to evaluate potential criminal activities uncovered within documents from the U.S. Justice Department's investigation into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. This coordinated effort includes examining allegations of misconduct by the former Prince Andrew, now known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
National Coordination Group Established
The National Police Chiefs' Council, which unites police leaders across the United Kingdom, announced on Wednesday that it has formed a national coordination group. This body will support forces investigating issues arising from the more than 3 million pages of documents released in late January 2026.
"It may take some time due to the volume of material and the complexity of international jurisdictions, but policing and its law enforcement partners are taking this matter extremely seriously, and will assess all information thoroughly," the council stated in an official release.
Multiple Forces Assessing Information
While the council did not identify specific police forces involved, at least eight have confirmed they are "assessing" information contained within the files. The scope of their inquiries is broad, covering:
- Concerns that Epstein's private jet may have been utilized for sex trafficking purposes
- Allegations that the former Prince Andrew sent confidential reports to Epstein during his tenure as Britain's international trade envoy
Specific Allegations in Surrey
Police in Surrey, the county bordering southeast London, revealed on Wednesday that the documents contain allegations of sex trafficking occurring in the village of Virginia Water between 1994 and 1996. The force provided no details regarding alleged perpetrators or victims but encouraged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
"Where relevant, and via the national coordination group, we will engage with law enforcement agencies to obtain access to further information which may support our enquiries," Surrey Police declared in their statement.
Political and Royal Repercussions
The Epstein scandal has sent shockwaves through both the royal family and British political circles in recent months, primarily due to Epstein's connections to the former prince and Peter Mandelson, the United Kingdom's former ambassador to Washington.
In October 2025, King Charles III removed his younger brother's royal titles, including the right to be addressed as a prince, in a bid to shield the monarchy from ongoing revelations about Andrew's friendship with Epstein.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer faced significant criticism for poor judgment and even challenges to his leadership after the documents exposed that Mandelson had a closer relationship with Epstein than previously acknowledged. This revelation came to light after Starmer had appointed Mandelson to the Washington ambassadorship.
The coordinated police response underscores the seriousness with which British authorities are treating the potential criminal implications within the Epstein documents, with investigations expected to be thorough yet time-consuming given the international scope and volume of material involved.
