In a groundbreaking collaboration, FBI Director Kash Patel and UFC CEO Dana White have unveiled a unique training initiative that will see mixed martial arts fighters from the Ultimate Fighting Championship instruct federal agents. The two-day exclusive training seminar is scheduled to take place this weekend at the FBI's Special Agent Academy in Quantico, Virginia, with attendance expected from academy students and senior FBI staff.
UFC Fighters to Share Expertise with Federal Agents
According to a statement released on Wednesday, current and former UFC athletes will lead the program, providing insight into their training regimens for competition while demonstrating specific techniques and tactics. This initiative aims to offer FBI agents a unique perspective as they prepare for field operations. UFC CEO Dana White expressed pride in supporting the FBI, stating that the organization's fighters are among the toughest individuals globally and are heading to Quantico to train the agency's best agents in mixed martial arts.
Patel's Vision and White's Commitment
FBI Director Kash Patel described the seminar as a tremendous opportunity for agents to learn and train with some of the greatest athletes on Earth. He praised Dana White for revolutionizing the mixed martial arts industry and expressed honor in partnering with him, the professionals, and the UFC. Patel emphasized gratitude for their shared patriotism, highlighting the goal of better defending the nation.
This idea was first proposed by Patel in February 2025 during a conference call with the FBI's 55 field office supervisors. Media reports from that time indicated mixed reactions, with some agents calling the concept surreal and wacky, according to sources briefed on the discussion.
Notable UFC Participants and Broader Context
The training will feature a roster of prominent fighters, including former UFC lightweight title challenger Michael Chandler, former UFC strawweight title challenger Claudia Gadelha, interim UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje, and MMA fighter Renzo Gracie. Additionally, top UFC flyweight contender Manel Kape, UFC BMF champion Jorge Masvidal, and former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman will participate.
Dana White, a long-time ally of President Donald Trump, is also collaborating with the administration to host a UFC fight night on the White House lawn later this year as part of the America 250 celebrations. This event is slated for June 14, coinciding with Trump's 80th birthday.
Recent Controversy and Response
The announcement follows recent controversy involving Patel, who faced backlash for partying with members of the U.S. men's hockey team in their locker room after their gold medal win at the Winter Olympics. A widely shared video appeared to show Patel chugging beer during the celebration. Patel addressed the issue on social media, stating he was humbled by the invitation from the gold medal winners and celebrating the moment as a testament to the country and sport.
This training program represents a significant step in blending sports expertise with law enforcement training, aiming to enhance the FBI's defensive capabilities through direct engagement with elite athletes.
