Transgender Defendant Accused of Sexual Assault with Prosthetic Penis in Court
A transgender defendant allegedly sexually assaulted a woman using a prosthetic penis, with the court hearing that the accused "thrived" when the victim tried to push them off during the attack. The disturbing details emerged during testimony at Hove Crown Court, where the 20-year-old student, Zainab Jamshaid, faces multiple charges related to a two-year relationship with a 19-year-old woman.
Violent Incidents and Ignored Safe Words
The alleged victim described a pattern of violence and sexual assault that began in April 2023 at a hotel in Woking, Surrey. According to her video interview testimony, the attack occurred on her birthday when Jamshaid became "really aggressive and rough" after initially kissing and touching her. The victim stated she was smacked in the face, held down by her wrists and shoulders, and sexually assaulted despite repeatedly saying "No" and using their agreed-upon safe word "pink."
"He started having sex with me and I said 'No' and he smacked me in the face five or six times," the teenager told the court. "I said the safe word and he told me to shut up and smacked me in the face."
The court heard that Jamshaid, who was born female but identified as male during the relationship, wore a specially designed prosthetic penis for transgender men "almost all the time" throughout their relationship. During the alleged assault, Jamshaid was wearing this strap-on device, which the victim described as being used against her will.
Pattern of Coercive Control and Multiple Attacks
The initial hotel incident was reportedly one of four occasions where the victim said she was assaulted by Jamshaid over their two-year relationship. She described a pattern of coercive control that included repeated slapping, punching, strangulation, and verbal abuse where Jamshaid would call her "a whore" and "a liar."
A second alleged attack occurred later in 2023 in Brighton, where the victim said she tried to use their safe word multiple times without success. "I was trying to get him off me. He liked it, he thrived off of me trying to push him off," she testified. "I just gave up because he wasn't going to listen to me."
After this incident, the victim said Jamshaid became angry and defensive, saying "You're acting like I assaulted you" to which she responded "You did." She described Jamshaid as "coercive" and said this was "the worst I'd ever felt."
Final Alleged Assault After Relationship Ended
The most recent alleged assault occurred in February 2024 in Brighton after the couple had separated. The victim returned home to find Jamshaid had smashed up her room, broken a laptop, and thrown her clothes around. Despite allowing Jamshaid to stay in a separate room, the victim said Jamshaid insisted "We're together and that's the end" and "No, you're mine."
She described another sexual assault where Jamshaid was "really forceful," removing her clothes despite her protests and use of their safe word twice. "He then held down my shoulders. It was almost as if I wasn't there. He started having sex with me," she told the court.
After this alleged attack, Jamshaid reportedly said "You're mine, you're mine," leaving the victim feeling "so pathetic" after having "just gotten to a place where I was strong enough to leave him."
Additional Allegations and Current Proceedings
The court also heard that Jamshaid allegedly imprisoned the woman in a college bathroom for much of one day, during which time the defendant strangled her with bare hands until she lost consciousness. Jamshaid now identifies as female again and faces 14 charges including sexual offences, assaults, strangulation, and coercive and controlling behaviour.
Zainab Jamshaid has pleaded not guilty to all charges. The trial continues at Hove Crown Court as the jury considers the evidence presented by both the prosecution and defense in this complex case involving gender identity, consent, and allegations of sustained abuse.
