Three people have been arrested in a police crackdown on e-bikes in Oldham. Officers from the Oldham Neighbourhood Team carried out two raids on Saturday morning (July 11), targeting the anti-social use of e-bikes and Surron bikes that has plagued the St Mary's area.
Arrests Made Under Operation Hurricane
As part of Op Hurricane, a coordinated crackdown on the anti-social use of off-road bikes, e-bikes, and quad bikes across the region, police executed warrants resulting in the arrest of two men, aged 18 and 29, and a 16-year-old boy. They were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit damage and have been bailed pending further investigation.
Police Statement on Community Impact
Inspector Amie Whitehead from the Neighbourhood Policing Team in Oldham stated: "The anti-social and dangerous use of e-bikes can have a significant impact on our communities and potentially puts other road-users or pedestrians at risk. These warrants demonstrate our continued commitment, through Operation Hurricane, to identifying and targeting those who use e-bikes to engage in criminality or anti-social behaviour. We have listened to concerns raised by local communities and will continue to take robust action to make our neighbourhoods safer and ensure those responsible are held accountable for their actions."
