Victims and Community Response

The three other individuals injured in the shooting are in stable condition, according to authorities. Their identities have not been released.

Carrollton, a city of 130,000 residents located 20 miles north of Dallas, has a significant Korean-American population. The U.S. Census Bureau reports that more than 4,000 residents are of Korean descent.

John Jun, a local community member, expressed shock to the Associated Press: “We’re shocked. We’re not immune to something like this happening, but we are very generally a peaceful community that works hard.”

Background of the Area

Over the past two decades, Carrollton has developed into a thriving Koreatown for the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area, attracting Korean investors. The area is anchored by big-box retailers like H Mart and features dozens of restaurants offering Korean fried chicken and shaved ice desserts. The city is also home to multiple Korean churches, ranging from Baptist to Presbyterian denominations.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident, and further updates are expected as the case develops.
