A 19-year-old teenager accused of a brutal killing has left investigators stunned with the chilling words he allegedly used to describe the crime. According to police reports, Lucas Sander Jones, 19, confessed to his girlfriend in graphic terms following the alleged attack, uttering a shocking seven-word statement: "I killed somebody and cut him up." This admission is now a central piece of evidence in the case against him.
Disturbing Scene Unfolds in Indialantic
The disturbing chain of events began on March 20, when Jones' girlfriend arrived at his home in Indialantic, Florida. Authorities describe a deeply unsettling scene, with blood stains on the floor and walls, marks on Jones' clothing, and signs of an attempted cleanup. Black spray paint had also been used inside the property, adding to the eerie atmosphere.
Targeted Attack on Registered Sex Offender
Police allege that the victim, Colie Lee Daniel, 28, was specifically targeted because he was a registered sex offender. An amended affidavit reveals that Jones had allegedly printed out a list of sex offenders living nearby prior to the killing, suggesting the attack may have been premeditated. Daniel had been convicted in 2018 of an offence involving a minor and was listed on the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s sex offender registry.
Brutal Details of the Alleged Crime
Authorities claim that Jones attacked Daniel with a baseball bat before dismembering the body using multiple tools, including a cleaver, a saw, and a knife. When Daniel failed to return home, his parents used a tracking feature on his device to locate him at Jones' address. They reportedly went to the house and were told their son was inside but refused to come out, prompting them to call police.
Grim Discovery in Remote Area
Officers were initially unable to gain access to the property, and by the time they returned the following day, there was no sign of Daniel. Police allege that after officers left, Jones transported the remains in containers and a suitcase, dumping them in a remote area of Palm Bay known locally as "the Compound." Days later, authorities were called to the site after vultures were seen circling an abandoned suitcase, leading to the grim discovery of human remains linked back to Jones.
Key Witness Changes Account
In a major development, Jones' girlfriend later changed her initial account, providing what she described as the "true timeline of events." She told detectives that Jones had instructed her not to speak to police and claimed the victim had already been killed and dismembered before she arrived. Investigators say she also shared previously undisclosed details, including allegations that Jones had kept some of the victim's blood.
Legal Proceedings and Charges
Jones was initially arrested on charges related to the handling of human remains but was later re-arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He is currently being held without bond as the case moves through the courts, with the shocking confession and evidence from the scene playing a crucial role in the ongoing investigation.
