A 19-year-old woman has faced a Manchester magistrates' court, charged with what prosecutors describe as a chilling attempt to poison her own uncle.
Izna Inayat is accused of administering a noxious substance, specifically paraquat weedkiller, into a bowl of soup intended for her uncle, Muhammed Israr. The alleged incident unfolded at a family residence in Bury, Greater Manchester, on May 17th of this year.
A Chilling Allegation in a Family Setting
The court heard that the incident was not an isolated event but the culmination of an ongoing family dispute. Greater Manchester Police were called to the property following reports of a disturbance, leading to Inayat's arrest.
Prosecutors outlined the serious nature of the charge, stating the act was "unlawful and malicious" with the intent to endanger life or cause grievous bodily harm.
Legal Proceedings Begin
During the brief hearing, Inayat, of Walmersley Road, Bury, spoke only to confirm her name, date of birth, and address. She has not yet entered a formal plea.
District Judge Joanne Hirst deemed the matter too serious for the magistrates' court to handle in its entirety. Consequently, the case has been sent to Manchester Crown Court, where more severe offences are typically tried.
Izna Inayat was released on unconditional bail. Her next appearance is scheduled for August 9th at Manchester Crown Court, where a plea and trial preparation hearing will take place.
