A 30-year-old woman fatally shot outside a bar in Sheffield was an innocent bystander enjoying a Bank Holiday weekend night out, police have confirmed.

Details of the Incident

Emergency services were called to a shooting outside the One Four One bar on West Street, a bustling nightlife district in Sheffield, at around 2:45 am on Bank Holiday Monday. Officers found a woman with serious injuries, who later died in hospital.

At a press conference this afternoon, South Yorkshire Police's Chief Superintendent Jamie Henderson, District Commander for Sheffield, stated: 'I'm here to provide an update on the investigation into the fatal shooting outside One Four One Bar in the early hours of Monday, and to tell you what we're doing to prevent and reduce further gun crime in Sheffield, to keep our communities safe.'

'Following extensive enquiries over the last 36 hours, we believe the victim was an innocent bystander who was on a night out in our city to celebrate the Bank Holiday weekend. While formal identification has not taken place yet, we believe her to be a 30-year-old woman from Sheffield, and next of kin have been informed.'

Arrests Made

Three individuals have been arrested on suspicion of murder: a 30-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman from Stockport, Greater Manchester, and a 30-year-old man from Sheffield. They remain in police custody for questioning. A team of detectives is working tirelessly to identify and apprehend any other suspects.

Chief Superintendent Henderson appealed for public assistance: 'We need your help. We know that West Street and Eldon Street were both busy at the time of this incident, and there were people who saw what happened who haven't yet come forward.'

Community Reaction

The shooting has left locals feeling unsafe. A shop worker near the scene remarked: 'I'm scared - it doesn't feel safe. These are crazy people. It shouldn't be happening in Sheffield.' A passer-by who witnessed the aftermath described seeing a woman receiving CPR on the pavement outside the bar. Police closed the road, and bouncers helped evacuate patrons from the venue.

A cordon that remained in place for the rest of the Bank Holiday was lifted on Tuesday, though uniformed police continue to patrol the area.

Gun Crime Trends

South Yorkshire’s Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, Kilvinder Vigurs, acknowledged the incident's severity but noted a significant decline in gun crime in Sheffield, from 273 incidents in the 12 months to June 2024 to 168 in the same period to June 2025. She said: 'I am deeply saddened by the death of a woman following the incident on West Street, and my heartfelt thoughts are with her family, friends and everyone affected by this tragic loss.'

'While we have seen a significant decline in gun crime, this horrific incident demonstrates the horrors, no matter how rare. It is important that members of the community come forward with information to prevent innocent members of the public becoming victims of senseless violence of this nature.'

She added: 'People should be reassured that South Yorkshire Police are working at pace to establish the full circumstances and to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.'
