Second Boy Dies After A30 Crash in Cornwall

A five-year-old boy has tragically passed away days after a multiple vehicle crash on the A30 in Cornwall that also claimed the life of an eight-year-old child. Emergency services responded to the scene near the A30 shortly before 11am on Friday, November 29.

Details of the Incident

The eight-year-old boy died at the scene, while the five-year-old was airlifted to Bristol Children's Hospital in a critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he has since died, Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed. The two boys, along with a woman in her 70s and a woman in her 40s, were travelling in the same car. The woman in her 40s has been treated and discharged from hospital, but the woman in her 70s remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

Arrest and Investigation

A man in his 60s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was treated for minor injuries and has since been released under investigation while inquiries continue. Police are urging witnesses and anyone with dash-cam footage from the area at the time of the crash to come forward.

Detective Inspector Andy Heath of the Serious Collisions Investigation Team said: 'I am saddened to confirm that a second boy has passed away following Friday's collision on the A30. It is important that the family are given the privacy needed at this difficult time and my thoughts remain with them and others affected by this tragic incident.' He added: 'Investigators continue to support the relatives while we secure the evidence required in this case. The relatives of the deceased children are being supported by specially trained officers. The investigation remains ongoing.
