Rapper appears to taunt police online after escaping custody twice in one week

The Metropolitan Police have launched an extensive manhunt for Daniel Boakye, a 21-year-old rapper who has escaped from custody on two separate occasions within a single week. The suspect, who performs under the stage name dsavv, appears to have posted a video online that taunts law enforcement about the incidents, adding a provocative twist to the ongoing search.

Details of the escapes

Boakye first escaped from prison guards at West Middlesex University Hospital on 10 February. He was recaptured by Metropolitan Police officers the following day, but his freedom was short-lived. On Sunday afternoon, 15 February, he managed to flee again, this time from Lewisham Hospital in south-east London, where he had been taken to receive necessary medical treatment while in police custody.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman provided specific details about the second escape, stating that Boakye absconded at approximately 3.05pm. Officers immediately gave chase but were unable to detain him before he exited the building. The spokeswoman confirmed that Boakye is currently serving a sentence of six years and five months, imposed in 2023 for his involvement in a serious robbery gang.

Criminal background and online taunts

Boakye was part of a robbery gang that held victims at knifepoint to obtain their phone passcodes. This enabled the gang to steal a total of £115,000 worth of cryptocurrency. Additionally, they used stolen bank details to pay for taxis and purchase top-up cards, demonstrating a sophisticated and calculated approach to their crimes.

In a brazen move, a video posted on Instagram appears to show a rapper, believed to be Boakye, performing in front of a screen displaying the original Sun newspaper story about his first escape. The song's lyrics include references such as "I just broke out of jail like Modie," alluding to a character from the popular TV series Top Boy. The track also boasts about being "fresh home," champagne, and cannabis, seemingly glorifying his escapes and mocking police efforts.

Police response and public appeal

The Metropolitan Police have issued a detailed description of Boakye to aid in his capture. He is described as black, of medium height, and slim build. At the time of his escape from Lewisham Hospital, he was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms and a dark Nike jacket. Authorities are urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact police immediately on 999, quoting CAD4005/15FEB. Alternatively, individuals can call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 to remain anonymous.

The police spokeswoman added that the incident is under review to fully understand the events that unfolded. The Met's directorate of professional standards has been made aware, indicating a thorough internal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escapes. This dual escape within such a short timeframe has raised significant concerns about custody procedures and security measures at medical facilities.
