Leicestershire Police have initiated a major operation involving building machinery and digging teams at a residential address in Leicester, as part of a murder probe into the disappearance of Gary Piatek, a 60-year-old man who was last seen in April 2024. The investigation has led to the arrest of 12 individuals on suspicion of murder, with nine currently remaining in police custody.

Gary Piatek has been missing for nearly two years, with authorities confirming there has been no proof of life since his last sighting in April 2024. The police force stated that specialist support is being provided to several of his close friends during this distressing time. The search is concentrated at a property in the Evington area of Leicester, where a significant amount of police activity is expected to continue over the coming days and weeks.

Currently, nine suspects remain in police custody, including six men aged 61, 43, 34, 33, 25, and 21, and two women aged 34 and 29. Additionally, a 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and is also being held. Two men, aged 25 and 23, have been released under investigation, while a 23-year-old woman arrested for the same offence has been released with no further action.
