Police cordon off Aigburth alleyway for overnight search

Police have cordoned off an alleyway in Aigburth, Liverpool, as officers conduct a search related to an overnight incident. The cordon was put in place on an alley off Aigburth Road, close to Sandhurst Street, on Saturday, July 11.

Police presence and search operation

When the Liverpool ECHO arrived at the scene just before 10:30 a.m., one police car was parked outside a flat in the alleyway. Shortly afterwards, two Two Matrix police vans and another police car arrived, with multiple officers searching the property.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed that officers were conducting a “search related to an incident which happened overnight” and stated that no one had been injured. They declined to provide further details.

Residents report early morning activity

Multiple local residents reported that officers arrived between 5:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. The alleyway comprises several flats, garages, and storage units. One man living on Sandhurst Street said: “They got here at about 5.45am. I was woken up by a lot of noises. There was an unmarked police car there first. It’s a bit of a worry, that entry. My wife is frightened by what’s down there. They leave the gate open.”

Another resident added: “They got here sometime this morning. There was shouting. There were some unusual, strange noises, like a sawing sound.” Liam Potter, 37, also of Sandhurst Street, commented: “I wasn’t aware the police were in the alleyway. It’s not too unusual to see police around here.”

Witnesses describe police actions

A man working in a nearby shop said police had been there since 5:30 a.m. and had cut open a set of metal shutters. Another woman remarked: “I was talking to my husband about it. It seems a bit heavy handed. We’re dying to know what happened.”

Sayd Jabar, 54, who works at the Second Home shop on Aigburth Road and also lives in the area, stated: “I’d love to know what's happened. I came here this morning and saw more police arriving. They were putting plastic sheets around the alleyway.”
