All trains on a busy Thameslink service line have been halted after a person was hit by a train between St Albans City and Bedford, near Luton Airport. The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 13, prompting emergency services to rush to the scene.
Disruption Expected Until Early Morning
Thameslink has reported that the disruption is expected to last until 5am as emergency services carry out their work. Passengers are warned that trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes, or revised.
A spokesperson for Thameslink expressed deep regret, stating: "It is with great sadness to report someone has been hit by a train between Luton and Bedford. All lines between these stations are now blocked until further notice."
Advice for Passengers
The rail company advised passengers: "If your train is delayed between stations, please stay on board and listen for updates. You can also ask staff if you need more information. We know where you are and are working to get you moving as soon as possible. For your safety, please don’t leave the train unless instructed. Other trains may still be running, and the tracks can be very dangerous."
Thameslink added that they are working with Network Rail and the emergency services to handle the incident sensitively, quickly, and safely.
Alternative Travel Options
Passengers can use their Thameslink tickets at no extra cost on London Buses on Night Bus routes, where available, between Elstree & Borehamwood, Central London, Croydon, and Purley. Tickets are also valid on London Northwestern Railway services between Milton Keynes Central and London Euston, as well as early-morning Thameslink and Great Northern services between Peterborough, Hitchin, Stevenage, and London Kings Cross.
