A Norfolk police officer is set to face a gross misconduct hearing following allegations of assaulting a 15-year-old boy during an arrest in Norwich. The incident, which occurred in July 2022, has been under investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was reportedly left with injuries after the arrest. The IOPC confirmed that the officer involved will answer to charges of excessive force and unprofessional conduct.
Details of the Incident
According to reports, the altercation took place after the boy was detained on suspicion of a public order offence. Witnesses claim the officer used unnecessary physical restraint, leading to visible injuries. The case was referred to the IOPC by Norfolk Constabulary, which later determined there was sufficient evidence for disciplinary proceedings.
What Happens Next?
The hearing, expected to take place in the coming weeks, will determine whether the officer breached professional standards. If found guilty, the officer could face dismissal from the force.
An IOPC spokesperson stated: "Our investigation found evidence suggesting the officer’s actions were disproportionate. It is now for the misconduct panel to decide the outcome."
Norfolk Police have declined to comment further while proceedings are ongoing.
