Irish police have opened a murder investigation after a horrific house fire in County Offaly left a woman and a young child dead and another woman fighting for her life.

The fire tore through a property at Castleview Park in Edenderry on Saturday evening. Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 7.45pm on December 6th.
Tragically, the bodies of a woman in her 60s and a four-year-old boy were discovered in the aftermath of the blaze. A second woman, aged in her 50s, was rescued from the property with serious injuries and remains in hospital receiving treatment.
