Mother Arrested After Two Infant Sons Die in Separate Incidents

A 21-year-old woman from Georgia has been taken into custody and charged with the murders of her two infant sons, who died just over three years apart. Dakota Taylor is accused of malice murder, felony murder, and cruelty to children in connection with the deaths of her seven-month-old son, Micah, in September 2021 and her eight-month-old son, Caleb, in January 2025.

Chilling Behaviour Sparks Investigation

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) initiated a probe after law enforcement officers reported being alarmed by Taylor's detached and emotionless demeanour at the scenes of both tragedies. Body camera footage revealed officers describing her as acting "nonchalant" and "alright, whatever" while emergency services attempted to save her children.

According to an arrest warrant obtained by WRDW, Taylor was arrested on Thursday for her role in Caleb's death. Investigators concluded she "unlawfully and with malice aforethought, deliberately caused the death of Caleb" by allegedly depriving him of oxygen, causing excessive physical and mental pain.

A Pattern of Tragedy Emerges

The investigation into Caleb's death in January 2025 uncovered the previous death of his brother. On the day Caleb died, Taylor brought him to a family member's house. A relative stated that Caleb's head was covered and that Taylor blocked them from seeing the baby. Once inside, the relative removed a blanket and discovered a diaper partially covering the infant's face and his lips were blue. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

This prompted a review of the September 2021 death of her first son, Micah. At the time, Taylor and Micah were living at a Georgia Department of Family and Children Services group home. An employee reported that after Taylor fed and bathed Micah, she placed him in a swing. The employee soon found the infant slumped over and unresponsive. Despite CPR, he could not be revived. Taylor now also faces charges for Micah's death, with police alleging she obstructed his airways "with malice and forethought."

While the GBI stated Taylor was being held at the McDuffie County Jail on Thursday, records indicate she has since been released. It remains unclear if she is currently in custody as of Tuesday. Her arraignment hearing is scheduled for February 11.
