Two Metropolitan Police officers have been removed from frontline duties after shocking footage emerged showing a man being kicked and stamped on during an arrest in Croydon, south London.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has confirmed it has launched a criminal investigation into the incident, which occurred on Monday evening. The police watchdog is examining whether the force used was proportionate and necessary.

Body-worn video from the arrest shows one officer kicking the man in the abdomen while he's on the ground, followed by another officer stamping on his head. The man can be heard crying out in pain during the altercation.
A spokesperson for the IOPC stated: "We have commenced a criminal investigation into two police constables following the arrest of a man in Croydon. Our investigation will consider whether the force used was proportionate, justified and necessary in the circumstances."

The Metropolitan Police confirmed both officers have been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation. A police spokesperson said: "We have referred this matter to the IOPC, which has now declared a criminal investigation. The officers have been suspended."
