Metropolitan Police Officer Charged with Rape of Afghan Refugee in Uxbridge
Met Police Officer Charged with Refugee Rape

A serving Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with rape following a disturbing incident involving an Afghan refugee at a west London police station.

PC James Geoghegan, 28, attached to the West Area Command Unit, faces allegations of sexually assaulting a man who had recently arrived in the UK from Afghanistan. The incident is said to have occurred at a Uxbridge police station.

Charges and Investigation

The Crown Prosecution Service authorised the charge after reviewing evidence gathered by the Met's Directorate of Professional Standards. The case has raised serious questions about conduct within the police force and the treatment of vulnerable individuals in custody.

A CPS spokesperson confirmed: "Following a review of the evidence, we have authorised a charge of rape against a serving Metropolitan Police officer."

Timeline of Events

  • The alleged assault occurred at a Uxbridge police station
  • The victim is an Afghan national who recently arrived in the UK
  • PC Geoghegan was immediately suspended from duty following the allegations
  • The case was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct

Upcoming Court Proceedings

PC Geoghegan is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 5th February. The Metropolitan Police has emphasised that criminal proceedings are now active and urged against commentary that could prejudice the case.

This case comes amid ongoing scrutiny of police conduct and standards within the Metropolitan Police, particularly concerning the treatment of vulnerable individuals and recent arrivals to the UK.
