Man Released Without Charge in Dublin Child Murder Investigation
A man in his 20s, who was arrested by Gardaí investigating the murder of a young boy in Dublin, has been released without charge. The arrest took place on Tuesday afternoon, and on Thursday morning, authorities confirmed his release, stating that a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Ongoing Investigations and Case Background
A spokesperson for the Gardaí emphasised that investigations are ongoing. The case involves the murder of Daniel Aruebose, a child whose remains were recovered from Donabate in North Dublin last September. A homicide investigation was officially launched in December, following the discovery of his body in an area of open ground after a weeks-long search by Gardaí.
Daniel had been reported missing after Irish authorities discovered in August that he had not been seen for several years. He would have turned eight years old on December 12, highlighting the tragic nature of this case.
Previous Arrests and Agency Involvement
This is not the first arrest in connection with Daniel's murder. In December, a woman in her 20s was also arrested and subsequently released without charge, with a file similarly being prepared for the DPP. The child and family agency Tusla had interacted with Daniel's family but closed its engagement after a temporary fostering arrangement ended.
The case has prompted significant scrutiny, leading to a series of wellbeing checks on thousands of Tusla files and a rapid review of Daniel's specific circumstances. These actions underscore the broader implications for child protection services and ongoing criminal inquiries.
As the investigation continues, Gardaí are focusing on gathering evidence and compiling detailed reports for potential future legal proceedings. The community remains deeply affected by this heartbreaking incident, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the pursuit of justice.
