Man dies trapped in Texas charity donation box

A 45-year-old man has died in a tragic incident after becoming trapped inside a metal charity donation box in Texas.

Desperate Pleas for Help

The man, whose identity has not been released, made a desperate call to emergency services at 1:36 am on Monday, pleading for help. During the chilling phone call, he was heard telling the operator, "I can't breathe, I'm having problems breathing."

Authorities believe the man was attempting to retrieve items from inside the bin, which was fitted with an anti-theft mechanism, when he became stuck.

Failed Rescue Attempt

Emergency crews responded immediately to the location. Mark Herman, a Harris County Constable, confirmed that first responders worked to free the man.

"Fire crews worked to safely gain access and remove the subject; however, the male was later confirmed deceased on scene," Herman stated. Despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the location.

Charity Response and Ongoing Investigation

Arms of Hope, the charity that operates the donation box, issued a statement expressing their condolences. "We are aware of the tragic incident involving a deceased individual discovered in a donation collection box," a spokesperson said. "Our hearts and prayers are with the individual and their loved ones during this difficult time."

The spokesperson added that they are unable to share further details as it is an active investigation.

This is not the first such tragedy. In July 2021, a 33-year-old mother, Alarrah Lawrence, was found dead after becoming trapped in a clothing donation bin in Australia.
