Man Denies Killing TOWIE Star's Mum in Crash That Injured Pregnant TV Star

Arda Alhaslioglu, a 20-year-old man, has formally denied causing the death of a mother and seriously injuring her daughter, a former star of the reality television show The Only Way Is Essex, in a tragic road collision. The defendant entered not guilty pleas to three driving offences during a hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court on Monday.

Details of the Alleged Offences

Mr Alhaslioglu, of Park View in Chigwell, Essex, is accused of causing the death of Gillian Theodorou and causing serious injury to her daughter, Clelia Theodorou, in a crash that occurred on Luxborough Lane in Chigwell on 27 May 2023. Clelia Theodorou, now 31 years old, was a prominent cast member on ITV's TOWIE from 2018 to 2021.

In addition to these charges, the defendant also denies a further allegation of causing death while driving without insurance. The court proceedings mark a significant step in the legal process following the devastating incident that has left a family grieving and a young mother recovering from severe physical trauma.

Impact on Clelia Theodorou

At the time of the collision, Clelia Theodorou was pregnant with her first child. She sustained serious injuries including two broken legs and feet, requiring multiple surgical operations during her recovery. Despite these challenges, she gave birth to her daughter, Cielo Elizabeth, with partner Tommy Cole later in 2023.

In July 2023, Clelia shared heartbreaking news about her mother's passing on Instagram, writing: "At the end of May myself and my mum were unfortunately involved in an accident, we both suffered terrible injuries. I am continuing to heal from mine after weeks in hospital, but it's with the biggest regret to say that my beautiful mum couldn't heal from hers."

She continued with an emotional tribute: "The person I never, ever wanted to say goodbye to. Who loved me unconditionally, the pure definition of a mother's love. This pain is paralysing, this loss we are suffering is beyond a feeling to even try to describe."

Ongoing Recovery and Legal Proceedings

Two years after the crash, Clelia has been open about her physical and emotional recovery journey. She recently shared with her Instagram followers that she has approximately twelve scars from her injuries and described feeling "really nervous" about showing them publicly.

"Its only been in the last few weeks I've actually braved having my legs out at all," she explained. "I have around 12 scars in total and I think it's time to just brave it and share them, because as much as they affect me I am walking again, able to have lovely trips to the park with Cici and start living again."

She added an important message about trauma recovery: "Trauma changes you both inside and out there's no denying that, but I want to be as transparent as possible with my ongoing recovery and how I feel and let you guys know its okay not to feel okay every day but good days like this are also round the corner."

Arda Alhaslioglu remains on bail and is required to return to Chelmsford Crown Court for a further hearing scheduled for May. The case continues to develop as the legal system processes the serious allegations against the defendant.
