Police in Bakersfield, California, responded to a bomb threat at a Chase Bank building on Tuesday afternoon, where a man barricaded himself inside with an unknown number of people. The incident unfolded around 1 p.m. at the bank located on Chester Avenue and 17th Street in downtown Bakersfield, according to Sergeant Eric Celedon of the Bakersfield Police Department.
Police Response and Lockdown
Upon arrival, officers confirmed a bomb threat and immediately established a perimeter. The Bakersfield Police Department posted on social media, urging the public to avoid the downtown area due to road closures that would remain in effect until further notice. City Hall, police headquarters, and other nearby buildings were placed under lockdown as a precautionary measure.
Approximately a dozen police vehicles, including a tactical unit and multiple emergency responders, were deployed to the scene. Law enforcement agencies set up trauma tents—color-coded with green, red, yellow, and black tags—to prepare for potential casualties, though these were established protectively and not necessarily indicative of injuries.
Witness Accounts
Jacob Davidson, a livestreamer known as Dad's Gone Live, was at his family's tattoo shop a block away when he received alerts from subscribers about the bomb threat. He entered the bank's parking garage and observed police entering the rear of the building. Davidson described the police presence as the largest he had ever seen in Bakersfield, noting the setup of trauma tents and a command center nearby.
Authorities have not released further details about the suspect or the number of individuals inside the bank. The situation remains ongoing, with police working to resolve the standoff peacefully.
