A dramatic police standoff that forced a primary school and several shops into lockdown in west Sydney has ended with the arrest of a man who had climbed onto a rooftop armed with a metal pole.

New South Wales Police were called to a shopping centre in Telopea at approximately 12pm on Tuesday following reports of a man acting suspiciously. Officers from the Ryde Police Area Command arrived to find a shirtless man on the roof of a strip of shops. The man was reportedly armed with a metal pole and allegedly refused to comply with police instructions to come down.
In response to the developing situation, authorities made the immediate decision to lock down nearby Telopea Public School as a precautionary measure. The row of shops directly beneath the man was also secured, ensuring the safety of staff and the public during the tense incident.
