A husband has appeared before Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, accused of drugging and raping his wife in a disturbing conspiracy involving a string of other men. The man, who is in his 60s, faces allegations of repeated attacks against his spouse over a 20-year period, as well as more recent rapes and sexual assaults involving the other defendants.
Court Proceedings and Charges
The husband and 12 other men appeared in court today, collectively accused of a total of 48 offences. For legal reasons, their names cannot be reported. The alleged attacks are said to have occurred at the couple's address in Stockport, Greater Manchester, after a substance was administered to the woman, who also cannot be named due to legal constraints.
Plea Details and Defendants
Only eight of the men were required to enter charges during the hearing. The husband pleaded not guilty to sharing intimate photos of his wife and a series of other charges, including rape, sexual assault, and conspiracy to commit assault by penetration.
One man in his 50s pleaded guilty to four charges: conspiracy to rape, two counts of assault by penetration, and conspiracy to administer a substance with intent. Six more defendants pleaded not guilty to various charges, such as rape, sexual assault, and conspiracy to administer a substance with intent.
Geographic Spread and Ages
Of the other defendants apart from the husband, five are from Stockport, three from elsewhere in Greater Manchester, one from Cheshire, two from other parts of England, and one from Dundee, Scotland. All accused individuals are aged between 28 and 73, with the offences involving the other men taking place in recent years.
Bail and Custody Decisions
Five defendants were granted bail, while a further seven were remanded in custody following the court appearance. The case is set to continue with a further hearing scheduled for March 20, and a trial is planned to take place on September 1.
This case highlights serious allegations of long-term abuse and conspiracy, with the court process now underway to address the 48 charges brought against the group of men.
