A quiet Melbourne suburb was shaken by tragedy after a 48-year-old man was charged with the murder of his wife in their Sunbury home.
James McColgan faced an out-of-sessions court hearing overnight following the death of 45-year-old Linda Falzon, whose body was discovered at the property on Sunday evening.
Neighbours Recall Chilling Screams
Disturbed residents reported hearing screams coming from the couple's home prior to police arriving at the scene. One neighbour described the harrowing sounds as "blood-curdling" and immediately called emergency services.
Victoria Police confirmed they responded to reports of an incident at the Sunbury address around 6:30pm, where they found Ms Falzon deceased.
Domestic Tragedy Unfolds
The couple, who had been together for several years, were known to locals as quiet members of the community. Friends expressed shock at the allegations, describing the pair as "normal, everyday people".
McColgan, who appeared via video link for his court hearing, was remanded in custody to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court later this week.
Community in Shock
Sunbury residents have left floral tributes near the crime scene, with many struggling to comprehend the violent incident in their typically peaceful neighbourhood.
Domestic violence support services have urged anyone affected by the tragedy to seek help, emphasising that family violence remains a critical issue across Australia.
Police investigations continue as forensic teams examine the property for further evidence.
